Besides X-Files, Futurama (Bender's Game out next week!!1!), and Cowboy Bebop, I have another show that I absolutely love. I am afraid many people have no idea what this show is: Mission Hill. The series only has thirteen episodes, and it took years for all thirteen of them to ever reach the screen. It's funky and will drown you in primary colors. It comes on [adult swim], you should watch it. ♥

So, anyway, I have a favorite episode too, and I wanted to tell you about it. (I don't know if you care, but, spoilers spoilers spoilers.) Andy's next door neighbors, Wally and Gus, have been together happily for years. Wally runs the projector at the art house theater and Gus owns a diner downtown. Andy's brother Kevin discovers that Wally was once a promising film director. He made a film in the 1950s, The Man from Pluto, and met Gus on the set (he was on the crew). He replaced the lead actor with Gus, who couldn't act, and the movie was terrible. This didn't bother Gus; he did it for love and didn't really care about Hollywood after that. Wally is ashamed of the movie, which looks cheap and silly, but Kevin finds an old copy and runs it as a Long Lost Premiere! at the theater. Everyone laughs as Gus fumbles around onscreen and Wally runs out, embarrassed. Gus likes the movie. ;) Wally is furious with Kevin, and everyone thinks the movie is so bad it becomes a cult sensation which plays for weeks on end.
Finally, Wally goes to the theater and sees that people have started to dress up like The Man from Pluto and are shouting lines at the screen. Wally hears someone in the back row say, "Whoever made this should get a medal, it's hysterical!", to which his friend comments that it is the most fun he has had in years. Wally smiles. He forgives Kevin, because he realizes the movie isn't about any man from Pluto -- it's about the man he fell in love with, and the movie stands as a testament to that. He goes home to Gus, who has fallen asleep waiting for him in a space helmet prop he found from the movie.
Isn't that just about the greatest thing you've ever heard?! It's so magical! I'm such a sucker for stories about movies. ♥
Have a great day, friends.
